Beats By The Pound: Exclusive Interview with Tee-Wyla
By Konviction: Music Editor and Artist on Triumfant Muzik
What’s good again people of God? Comin’ at cha once more, via cyberspace live from destinations near and far, it’s ya family, ya brother with the same Daddy (God) but a different mother, Konviction! God is Omnipotent and always on the throne! HALLELUJAH HE IS! Like always, in giving Him all of the glory, honor, and all of the praise, as He has blessed all of us truly including you the reader, by allowing us to cross paths with the anointing and sincerity found in none other than the homey Tee-wyla from Stylwyld Music. Now before you ask yourself, who is he, consider the amount of Christian hip-hop joints he has had you banging through your speakers, by working with artist such as Richie Righteous, Lavoisier, Phanatik, Young Joshua, R-Swift, Seda, Eric Cross, among others. Now that we have done the particulars, check out our discussion. A Classic with a capital C fasho:
Konviction: To begin, can you tells us what your life was like before coming to Christ, and specifically, how it has changed since your salvation?
Tee-wyla: Yo, honestly, you can say that I am the prodigal son. My parents, God Bless them, were church planters during my childhood, both my mom and my older brother were choir directors also. I had a very strong understanding of who God was and how His house functioned. The problem was, for whatever reason, not enough attention was given me as an individual. So I found myself searching, seeking for an outlet to express my feelings. An outlet I found in graffiti, which eventually would gravitate into full blown illegal activities. “I had the overwhelming desire to get into mischief at all cost and would sneak out of the house to fulfill my graffiti addiction and my friends at the time were always there for me. It was a false sense of family. In hindsight, I realize that there was truly an active spirit force at work, working endlessly to prevent me from my God-given destiny! Homey that’s why I stand on Romans 8:18, and it is my favorite passage of scripture, because I know the meaning through
experience. Yet, it is those experiences, the ones outside of the Kinigdom life, that God has used to prepare me to minister effectively to win souls for the Kingdom, and to be effective in every phase of my life. It took a period of time, but God, as always, was able to bring me out!
K: Moving in a different direction, in your opinion, what purpose should Christian rap serve? Is it primarily to evangelize, exhort, or otherwise? If you could change or add to the ministry of Urban Gospel in any way, what would that be?
T: Urban Gospel/Christian, being an extension of the Kingdom of God, should conform to the vision of the five fold ministry which God have to the Apostle Paul through scripture. As a result, some should be given, as ministers to teach, others to evangelize, others still to pastor, others to apostleship, and some to prophesy. From the perspective of a minister, I do not feel compelled to change the ministry per se, but rather expand its boundaries through creativity and the inspiration God the Creator has given me. We can do this by pushing the envelope and expanding our genre. While we have seen recent changes, over the previous twenty or so years the church and gospel community in general had not supported the use of urban gospel music as a evangelical tool. As a result, a generation of youth was left uncovered. As an example of this, one of the things that Stylwyld Music is doing is taking steps to create Christian Music for the Baltimore club music scene. Some mixtapes are forthcoming!
K: As a producer, is there a creative formula, strategy if you will, that you prefer to use when crafting Kingdom Music? Are there certain techniques, instruments, or genre of music that provide you inspiration?
T: Honestly, bro, I use everything. I use it all. But for me, it seems like the mistakes end up making the tightest music. I do like and will use sampling; however, I will never use a sample that I cannot legally clear. Furthermore, my preference is live instrumentation. I personally play the drums, the keyboard, some guitar, and a little violin has recently been added to the repertoire. If I can’t play it, I’ll find someone who will!
K: As a Christian first and as a producer second, what is your opinion of Christian musicians working with and creating secular music? Are they simply making a living, assisting the enemy in thwarting God’s plan, or otherwise? Please explain.
T: Personally, I find your question to be a bit extreme. Let me explain. When I was first introduced to musicians who played with the church, and toured with non-christian or secular artist, I felt that it was wrong of them to do so. But, then, I found myself using grace, because, for some people, music is how they make a living and this is truly all they know. Besides, it is truly not my place to correct or hinder but God’s alone. In fact, I have come to know some musicians who do both and it has been revealed to me that God has positioned them to minister in these arenas. We truly don’t know what happens behind closed doors, and only God’s angels can separate the chaff from the wheat!
K: What words of wisdom would you give to an aspiring producer of Christian music? How do you see your genre changing over the next few years and why?
T: I think the advent of the internet, while it has certainly helped level the playing field for independent artist, it also has given us the false perception that we can readily attain wisdom that truly will only come with experience in certain areas, and music production is one of those areas. You gotta put in work to gain wisdom in production, period! To be real, I don’t really feel qualified to give tips yet, as I am still new at this thing and far from a veteran producer. However, if someone were to approach me directly, I would do the best I could with the limited knowledge I possess to give them what little wisdom I have accumulated at this point in my ministry. And things that I don’t know, which are many, I would know who to go to obtain that info.
K: What do you say to those who fail to accept christian hip-hop as legitimate ministry and effective means of promoting the agenda in Christ? What if anything, can we do to bridge the gap that exists between traditional and urban ministry?
T: Times are changing, and have been changing slowly now, for quite some time. We have to grow to accept the fact that, the gospel is the gospel, so long as it conforms to the standard given by Christ. I sincerely thank the Lord for visionary ministries like the Elements Church or the Crossover Church that have been grinding tirelessly to save this generation.
K: Tell us in depth about the Illsong Mixtape, how it came to pass, and what did you grasp from the experience?
T: My two year old son, Judah, was born with a congenital heart defect, and told he had no chance to live. As a father, I was crushed, understandably so and as a result found myself entering into the most intense worship and devotion period of life. As I continued to grow in worship and meditation, I felt as though I couldn’t find music to match the intensity of my worship. I was truly engaged in warfare for my son’s life. It was around this time that I met T-wyse, and our meeting was both purposeful and powerful. Through a period of roughly a year and a half, full of phone discussions, video chats, prayer, discipleship, and fellowship, the project, the illsong mixtape, was released. Actually, we didn’t anticipate the response we received. In less than a week, we received over 4,000 downloads from the dasouth.com alone! Precisely seven days later, we received an email from the attorneys at EMI Music. Apparently, they were under the impression that we were selling the project! It was a very serious email, to say the least. Our express purpose for the mixtape itself, to be clear as crystal, was to introduce christian hip-hop to the intense worship style that Hillsong provides. While we will not stop doing these mixtapes, we have altered our approach, based upon the legal feedback received and our experience with EMI and larger ministries.
K: Any last encouraging words? Where can the people reach you? How can artists or ministers of music reach out to you?
T: For artist seeking production, please check me out at www.soundcloud.con/stylwyldmusic. For additional information regarding Stylwyld Music, including booking, engagements, etc, please contact us at justadvocatemgt@gmail.com, or jtoala1@gmail.com. We appreciate your support as we strive to influence Kingdom music and culture!

For those who don’t know, Othello is hip hop! He’s been giving you real music you can feel since 98. Check his resume. He toured the US, Europe, and Japan, and has been on the summer-long Warped Tour, shared stages with De La Soul , People Under the Stairs, Black Milk, Guilty Simpson, Galactic, Chali Tuna, One BeLo, Ying Yang Twins and well you get the point.. He has sold over 20,000 records around the world. Well now he has a fYAH new album that’s produced entirely by DJ Vajra. I’m telling you this is some of his best work. The Oracle’s music editor ( and Triumfant Muzik artist) Konviction broke bread with Othello to talk about his music, his walk with GOD and more. Check the transcript!
Konviction: For the benefit of our readers, Can you give us a detailed account
of how you came to know Jesus in the pardon of your sins? Was there
any particular issue or circumstance that was relevant to the
experience?
Othello: I grew up a decent kid with a strict moral code (that) my parents had no problem reinforcing. While my home provided me with a solid upbringing, we were not Christians. I found Jesus rapping alongside two other brothers who grew up in church. I became intrigued and began my quest for “TRUTH”. Skeptical of Christianity as it was presented to me at a “Holy Spirit Filled” church…I turned to “God“ and said ” I don’t care if you are Budah, Confucious, Allah or whatever, but if you show me who you are I will serve you. Jesus Began revealing the powerful truth to me about his love, redemption, sacrifice and purpose. So much that I’ve been following Jesus for the past 12 years as my redeeming Messiah and Lord.
K: In listening to the album, I can’t help but notice it has a very clean, crispy, boom-bap appeal, in addition to the DJ/Rap collabo. Is there a specific statement this album is designed to send to the listeners of Christian rap or hip-hop at large? Is there a biblical theme or worldview theme that is underlying the music? How does this compare to previous albums or releases? What are your two favorite songs off the joint and why?
O: The album is a collaborative effort between me a long time Friend Dj Vajra. We’ve always wanted to work together and finally we made it happen. His production style complemented my roots as an artist. During the year this album was being created, I grew as a believer and a man. Having a young family and enduring a season of ongoing hardships, My family and I were left eating the words we so easily preached on and off stage of not letting our circumstances dictate how we view LIFE and God’s hand in the one we’re living. This record is for the people who know what it feels like having to balance being a responsible adult/husband/wife etc., while having a desire and passion to be more than a workaholic. Having a desire to be all that God has called us to be, understanding there is a process we go through in which we can allow to refine and prepare us for what’s ahead.
My favorite songs would have to be Trust, Road Letters, It’s, and The Great Divide because they are the most personal accounts on the record.
K: In general, what is your perception of Christian rap as a genre? What do you make of attempts to establish a mainstream audience or voice for the genre itself? Is this positive for the genre? If so, why, and if not why not?
O: In all honesty, my desire is not to establish a genre of music as much as it is to be effective in the call God has for me with the demographic He has given me an audience with. I support the brothers and sisters I’ve met along the way who carry the “Holy Hip Hop” banner. (But) At the end of the day, i just want to be a positive but more importantly an effective representation of God’s Grace and Mercy to a world in need of a Savior. I’m planted in a solid local church family and consider it a blessing and an honor to serve alongside various ministries who desire to see lives changed for the Glory of Christ Jesus. We are fishers of men…different fish…different bait…different fishing techniques. I only desire to hear “Well done good and faithful (servant)” when it’s all said and done.
K: Are you actively involved in any other aspects of ministry, excluding rap music? If so, how does this relate to your music? If not, can you elaborate on the impact your music has on your listeners?
O: I serve in my church playing the “Hand Drum” when they need it…Hahaha. But pretty much my wife and I have made ourselves available to be used at whatever capacity there is a need for. It’s a church plant so you can guess we’ve helped out in almost every aspect of the church. Haha. Trying to serve homie…Just trying to serve.
K: Is there any area of your ministry or life that you wish to improve, any area of weakness that you feel comfortable sharing? And what step have you taken to improve that area of your life?
O: I have a faith Issue. I am a skeptic by nature. I do not conform easily and loathe the idea of being blindly manipulated especially when it comes to vulnerable issues like FAITH, TRUST, SPIRITUALITY, and TRUTH. But JESUS is true so let all men be a lie. I feel we are responsible for wearing our true face, not only in front of people (church included), but most importantly in front of the Lord. I am flawed on so many levels and my actions to change them are to give to God and keep stepping while he refines me with His power and mercy.
Active Balanced HD from Lain Lee 3 on Vimeo.
K: What is your perception of unity amongst Christian rappers? What, if anything, can or should we do to improve this circumstance?
O. As far as unity among believing Mc’s, I have a brief story. I once sat at a table with the homie, Todd Bangs. Needless to say, we come from two very different approaches to how we go about “fishing”. He told me “You don’t have to be “All in your face with Jesus” as long as Jesus is IN your face”. We both agreed HE was in each others faces. Let’s not confuse methods with motives ya’ll. We need to be praying for each others personal lives and that they honor the Father so from that place (we) pray there would be a desire in our hearts to share that truth in our music allowing the Holy Spirit to draw folks unto himself through what we do….Period.
K: Who is your favorite rapper and producer and why? Is there anyone you have yet to work with that you desire to connect to? What would be your ultimate collabo?
O: Hard to say…I listen to so much stuff that its hard to pick favorites. It all depends on the mood I’m in.
K: From a technical standpoint, how do you “grade” an emcee? What skill set do you seek to develop if you intend on mastering the craft? What advice would you give those looking to pursue careers in this field?
O: I grade an emcee on Voice, Wit, Flow, Personality and Sincerity. In mastering your craft I think you have to first eliminate boxes and formulas. Do you…but do you the best. Embrace Criticism. Desire Growth. Strive for Excellence. As far as careers in hip hop…be honest before yourself and God. Commit to only accepting what HE intends. You’ll find a satisfying purpose there.
K: Tell us what to expect in the future from Othello. Anything else poppin off you wanna share? Singles? Tour dates? Videos? Other products and services? Where can the people reach you? How can they
connect to your movement?
O: I am working on a record with 14kt that is a very accurate account of where I’m at musically, emotionally and spiritually. We’re hoping for it to be ready to drop spring 2011. You can Find me at

Brethern in Unity: The Annointing of GOD Flows
Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity. It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. Ps. 133:1,2.
And you shall consecrate them, that they may be most holy, whatever touches them must be holy. And you shall anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, they may minister to Me as priest. Ex. 30: 29,30.

A few weeks ago, we were blessed with the opportunity of getting together to fellowship and celebrate the birth of one of God's choicest servants and young men in the faith, LU-I. As a member of the Triumfant Muzik family, of Mt. Calvary Church of God in Christ (COGIC), and the body of Christ, LU, as we often call him, has become one of my closest associates. Myself, Salte, Pastor G, Astro, J.Dot, and the family truly enjoyed the fellowship.
Later that night, as I prayed, I thanked God for conforming me personally to His image, to His will, His destiny and direction for my own life. I continually thank Him for connecting me to purity and holiness, for allowing me to "touch" those consecrated to Himself in a Spirit of service. It has been a long, winding road, sometimes bumpy, and literally unbearable at points, but the results have been undeniable. I have learned to not only appreciate, but enjoy holiness.
As you watch the video, and enjoy us as we utilize the gifting God has given, notice the peace, contentment, the joy, the warmth and sincerity of the smiles, the candid expression, the honesty and openness, and the anointing of God in operation. How we long for the day when the Body of Christ at large will exhibit this quality.
Not that we have it all perfected, or matured, for we have our own crosses to bear. But for this miniature slice of eternity, we resembled the blessed unity and precious oil that is pleasing unto the nostrils of God! Amen.
PS-Its Almost Time! The Lazarus Experience Vol. I is coming 8.24.2010, exclusively @ triumfantmuzik.com. Also check out my google profile, which a link to my complete social media, @ www.google.com/profiles/triumfantmuzik1.

Quran Burning Event: Without Love WE are Nothing!

Whats up famo! its ya boi Konviction, at it again, spending time on blogger gettin ill wit da pen! Ha Ha!
Just decided to craft up an opinion about something that has garnered much attention down here in da Holy South! In Gainsville, Fl, approximately 2 hours north of Orlando, there is a church and surrounding community planning a Quran burning ceremony in observation of 9/11 and the World trade Center Bombings. The Dove World Outreach Center is hosting what is being called "International Burn a Quran Day" on the ninth anniversary of the attacks.
"We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it's causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times," Pastor Terry Jones told CNN's Rick Sanchez earlier this week. While there are some supporting the issue, many, including hordes of Christians, are against it.
The National Association of Evangelicals, the nation's largest umbrella evangelical group, issued a statement urging the church to cancel the event, warning it could cause worldwide tension between the two religions.
While I am obviously no Muslim, and wholeheartedly embrace the salvation of Jesus Christ and the sanctification of the Holy Ghost publicly, it is very important that Christians understand that these actions do not reflect the nature, character, nor intentions of the God we serve. The Apostle Paul, writing in his classic treatise on the topic of love, states that "without love, it profits us nothing" 1Cor. 13:3.
How, then, can we as saints, love God, yet despise and put to shame that which He created? In His own image and likeness?
How can a man claim to know and love Christ, yet hate his brother?? Or as the popular slogan would suggest, What would Jesus Do? Any hints?
I got one for ya.
Love bears all, believes all, and endures all things. God is Love. Love is that cure-all for humanity. Christ, referring to himself, states, "And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto Me." (John 12:32) The lifting of Christ, His physical death and resurrection, is a symbol of compassion to the lost, representing God's love to the nations and various peoples of the World, especially those who despised, rejected, and accursed His Name, His Kingdom, and His Glory.
The Great Physician..came to deliver, to heal the sick, wounded, and confused. The blind and bound....
What doctor, then, of a Just and Righteous nature, would, laying His eyes upon a sick and dying generation, refuse them treatment???
Not My God. My Healer. My Deliverer.
What can wash away my sins...What can make me whole again??
Nothin but the love of Jesus...
The Great Recompense, the Ransom, the Bond. Foll All People.
Rich, Poor, White, Green, Fat, Skinny, Saved, and Unsaved. And Muslims. For He wishes that No man would perish.
Instead, why don't we transform that rally into Share Christ With a Muslim Day? A Day of reconciliation, healing, and transformation. Invite the Spirit of Promise, and stand back and let Him do His work!
Watch Muslims watch the Spirit of Christ, break generational yokes, burdens, and divisions that have existed among people for generations....
Our God is a God of restoration. This sounds much more like Him!

Endurance is the Key
Konviction MUZIK
http://www.triumfantmuzik.com/
Wow. As I reflect on the process, the process of making the Lazarus Experience Vol. I, so many different and varied things rush into my mind. Yet, above all, head and shoulders, is the quality of endurance. To endure. To keep on keepin on. To lay it all on the line. The bible says in the book of Hebrews, chapter 12, verse 1, that "therefore we also, since surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."
Never give up. Never, Ever. No matter what your circumstance appears to be, feels to be, no matter what is spoken, what death is announced, decreed, or declared, whether by principalities, powers, pastors, or even loved ones, God is still able. So long as there is living breath in the thing, so long as there is life, God is able.
Jesus, when knowing that His hour to be glorified unto death had come, spoke to His disciples saying, " In the world, you will have tribulation;but be of good cheer, for I have overcometh the world." John 16:33.
So long as we are in Christ, we shall obtain the victory, the triumph, we shall overcome the world, the tribulations, trials, setups and setbacks, roadblocks and potholes, lockups, and the lockdowns. period.
Eudurance is the key to maturity, full blown growth and development in Christ, beyond the elementary stages of faith. Thru the process, He will purge, prune, burn, and disinfect us of our wordliness and uncleaness. Of the sin, the spiritual decay and rot that is like an offensive odor to His nostrils, a rigamortis if you will. To the contrary, hanging in there, staying in race, gives Christ time to order our steps, and fashion our lives in a manner that will cause us to develop as He desires, which is directly to the fulfillment of His preordained purpose for each of us, the completion of a task for heavenly proportions.
So many things have happened during this process. But thru it all, I have remained faithful. Not that I have fully apprehended, or not that I have attained that status of purity yet, as Paul stated, but I am continually pressin toward the mark, of the higher calling of the prize. I am still in the race. And I wont quit.
Winners never quit. And quitters never win.

Lazarus Come Forth: Sickness for the Glory of God
Konviction Triumfant Muzik www.triumfantmuzik.com konviction@triumfantmuzik.com
Hey there. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself...
To the church, community, and the World-at-large.
Im Konviction. A former whoremonger, former addict of everything tasty including drugs and women, secular rap musician, ex-dead beat dad, etc. You know. The stereotypical imagery that popular culture suggests decribes us, especially us brothas, all too well...
Funny thing is, what I was, has contributed greatly to who I am and what I am quickly becoming. In the book of John, Our Beloved, Jesus, when informed of the death of his close friend and confidante Lazarus, a man whom the bible says that Jesus loved, Christ told the disciples in reference to Lazarus' death that, "this sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified thru it." John 11:4.
Hmmmmm. Amen. Our sickness, even our death, will ultimately work toward the glory of God. Amen.
The very things that the enemy used against me, even my own ignorance, has been used to prepare me for the task which God assigned to me before my mothers womb, before the foundation of the World. All of the pain, rejection, anger, abuse, confusion, strife, bitterness, and unforgiveness, has collectively given me an understanding of deliverance, and transformed me into a symbol of Gods promise for our generation.
God is not a God of favoritism, he is no respector of persons....What He can do for me, He can do for you..
Or your wife, your son, your co-worker....
your incacerated child, or addicted sibling...sin is sickness, true, and is separation from God, a spiritual death. But Christ is the antedote...the cure, for all ailments..the cureall...the medical miracle for a World that has lost faith in His Power...
It is this principle that defines the Lazarus Experience. He called me forth. And thru faith and belief in His power, I came. Here I am, Lord, send me, I replied.
Thus, in a similar fashion, thru His power, and ordained by His authority, an authority given to All who truly believe, I call you forth......
Those of you sick...addicted, hurting, confused, dazed, blinded, oppressed, hungry, and abused....
The dead in sin and trespass against God...say Yes...Yes to Jesus, to Resurrection and Redemption..
Say yes to Life..Life Eternal in Christ Jesus...Stay tuned to the Lazarus Experience Vol. I
For God So Loved The World that he gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever shall believe in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3: 16.
